Hedrick Creek Fish Passage - #9042

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are removing an old narrow culvert and replacing it with a new bridge on SR 542 near Glacier.

Work schedule:

  • Until further notice - A single lane of SR 542/Mount Baker Highway at Hedrick Creek will be closed until fall 2017. A stoplight or flaggers will alternate traffic through an single lane bypass that has been built north of the highway. The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph.
  • Monday, Aug. 28 - A power outage is tentatively planned 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. east of this work zone as crews work to put bridge girders in place. The power will be turned off for worker safety due to line location near this work.
Railroad Work

Highway: SR 548 Region: Northwest County: Whatcom Location: Milepost(s) 0.29

Description: Contractor crews working for the railroad will close the road during daylight hours for railroad work.
Work Schedule:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 15 - SR 548/Grandview Road will be closed just west of Portal Way daily from 3 a.m. until 7 p.m. for railroad work. A signed detour will be provided.
SR 548 Temporary Stop Signs

Highway: SR 548    Region: Northwest    County: Whatcom    Location: Milepost(s) 4.93

Description: Whatcom County construction crews are replacing a fish passage on county roads. The detour route includes SR 548. Stop signs have been added to SR 548/Grandview Road at Kickerville Road during this construction. These signs are temporary and this intersection will go back to a two way stop when construction is complete.

Description: Crews from Frontier Communications will be working on utility lines.
Work schedule:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 16 - Overnight travelers on SR 20 should plan for brief traffic holds of 5-10 minutes from 12:01 a.m. and 4 a.m. between Sharpes Corner and March's Point Road/Christianson Road as crews string utility lines across the highway.

SR 20 West Sedro-Woolley Paving and Crosswalk Improvements - #9073

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Lakeside Industries are repaving and upgrading pedestrian crossings on SR 20 in Sedro-Woolley.

  • Sunday, Aug. 13, to the morning of Friday, Aug. 18 - A single lane of SR 20 between Collins Road and SR 9 will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for paving work. Drivers should give themselves 30 extra minutes to travel through this area. Cyclists should consider alternate routes. Day work will also be happening on pedestrian crossings during the weekdays, pedestrians may need to detour across the street to avoid work zones.
SR 20 Sedro-Woolley to Concrete Vicinity BST - #8989

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Granite Construction are rehabilitating the existing pavement on SR 20 between Sedro-Woolley and Concrete. This work requires daylight hours and warm temperatures to complete. Lengthy delays are anticipated. Avoiding or limiting travel during daylight hours or using alternate routes will help minimize your wait times. All drivers should plan ahead for long delays through this work zone.

  • Monday, Aug. 14, to Friday, Aug. 18 - Crews are working on rumble strip, striping and reflector installation. They will also need to do some additional pavement repair before this project is complete. Work zones are moving during this work and drivers could be slowed as work moves down the highway. Be aware that some materials could be wet during this work, so remain in lanes and slow speeds to avoid getting that material on vehicles or driving through fresh paint.
  • Plan Ahead - Delays up to 30 minutes could happen through this area. Add extra time to your travel plans, delay your travel or consider an alternate route during work hours.
  • Skagit County work - The county has started work to repair the bridge over Lower Finney Creek on South Skagit Highway. You can find additional information on that project on the county's website.

Bob Galbreath Rd to Holbrook Rd Paving and ADA - #9050

  • Until further notice - Travelers on southbound SR 20 toward the Coupeville Ferry Terminal should plan extra time to make the first sailing of the day of the final weeknight sailing.
  • Sunday, Aug. 13, to the morning of Friday, Aug. 18 - Contractor crews have finished work in most major intersections and will be working on bus and turn lane paving as well as putting down a final asphalt sealant, installing rumble strips, striping and adding reflectors. They will also be doing some signal detection and electrical work at various intersections nightly Sundays to Friday mornings from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Granite Construction are upgrading intersections, sidewalks and repaving more than 30 miles of highway between Clinton and Coupeville. Some of this work is weather dependent and mileposts could change based on work progress. Travelers should plan for up to 30 minutes of delays and cyclists should consider an alternate route.

  • Sunday, Aug. 13, to the morning of Friday, Aug. 18 - Contractor crews have finished work in most major intersections and will be working on bus and turn lane paving as well as putting down a final asphalt sealant, installing rumble strips, striping and adding reflectors. They will also be doing some signal detection and electrical work at various intersections nightly Sundays to Friday mornings from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Until further notice - Sweeping is part of the work but traffic through areas can loosen rocks from the road. Please slow your speeds and use caution, especially if you are on a motorcycle. Cyclists should consider choosing alternate routes during this summer construction project. Travelers should prepare for delays up to 30 minutes as crews finish work on this 30 mile paving project.

Church Creek Fish Passage - #9002

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are improving fish habitat through Church Creek under SR 532.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, Aug. 11, until further notice - All lanes of SR 532 at 268th Street Northwest just east of Stanwood will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 for approximately two weeks. Westbound vehicle traffic can detour via 36th Avenue Northwest to 268th Street Northwest. Eastbound traffic can detour via a temporary bypass lane to 268th Street Northwest to 64th Avenue Northwest. Truck traffic should detour via I-5 to the Conway exit and down Pioneer Highway.
Skagit County Fair
  • Wednesday, Aug. 9 - Saturday, Aug. 12 - Travelers could experience extra congestion around SR 536 and I-5 exits in Mount Vernon during the Skagit County Fair.

Coupeville Festival

  • Saturday, Aug. 12 - Sunday, Aug. 13 - Travelers headed through the Coupeville area could experience extra congestion on SR 20 due to Coupeville Arts and Crafts Festival. Plan extra travel time into your trip if you are headed to a ferry terminal.

Pig Fest - Oak Harbor

  • Sunday, Aug. 13 - Travelers headed between Deception Pass and the Coupeville or Clinton ferry terminals could experience extra traffic on SR 20 due to Oak Harbor Pig Fest and a closure on Southeast Pioneer Way. Plan extra travel time into your trip to make your preferred sailing.

Northwest Washington Fair - Lynden

  • Monday, Aug. 14 - Saturday, Aug. 19 - Travelers could experience extra congestion on SR 539/Guide Meridian Road near Lynden during the Northwest Washington Fair..

2017 Tour de Whidbey

  • Saturday, Aug. 19 - Extra cyclists will be on or near Whidbey Island highways during this annual cycling event.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer
  • Saturday, Aug. 26, and Sunday, Aug. 27 - Cyclists will be on highways from King to Whatcom County during this annual event. Locally, be aware that you might encounter additional bicycle traffic on SR 9, SR 11, SR 20, SR 536, SR 542, SR 543, SR 544 and SR 548 during this event and remember to share the road.

Bici Baker Epic

  • Saturday, Aug. 26 - Drivers should expect extra cyclists on portions of SR 9, SR 547 and SR 542 during the inaugural Bick Baker Epic bicycle ride between Sumas and Artist Point.

Chuckanut Classic

  • Sunday, Aug. 27 - Cyclists will be on or near I-5, SR 11 and SR 548 in Skagit and Whatcom counties during the annual Chuckanut Classic bicycle event.

Bike MS Deception Pass Classic

  • Saturday, Sept. 9, and Sunday, Sept. 10 - Extra cyclists will be on sections of I-5, SR 11, SR 20 and SR 536 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. for a charity ride. Flaggers and Washington State Patrol will be in areas of the route to help direct vehicle and bicycle traffic.
